Are the billions of dollars invested in researching the big bang justified in researcher talent and monetary terms instead of investing into meeting the basic needs of human beings?
A few months ago, researchers into the ‘big bang’ i.e. origin of the earth unsuccessfully tested their project. It turns out that some of the world’s best researchers have been investigating this aspect of science for years and that astronomical amounts of money have been pumped into this project. There is no doubt that science has positively contributed to human civilisation and enriched our life experiences.
Some however question the justification of scientists and huge sums of money being invested in investigating the origin of the earth instead of researching problems that affect human existence such as incurable diseases, conflict resolution, drought, housing, food, clothing etc. Would you consider that this would be a better use of talent and resources than investigating the ‘big bang’ which has no direct bearing on reducing the vast sources of human suffering which affects even the very scientists and their financiers?
